What the treatment does
A Protein Treatment is an add-on service designed to reinforce weakened hair fibers and support loc structure without promising permanent change. In our Laurel studio this 30 MINUTES add-on ($25) is offered alongside regular maintenance so clients can strengthen strands affected by humidity, mechanical wear, or prior styling, while keeping appointments convenient for commuters and busy families.
Clients who notice fragility at the roots, increased breakage during styling, or a change in loc cohesion often choose this option. Results vary with each head of hair; our locticians evaluate porosity and past chemical history during the appointment to determine whether a protein-focused approach is appropriate for your locs.
Application and salon process
During the salon visit, your loctician will assess hair condition and add the Protein Treatment as an extra step within the scheduled service. The treatment is applied to the hair and locs and allowed to process according to the stylist’s assessment; total time allocated for this add-on is 30 MINUTES. This makes it easy to combine with evening or weekend appointments for before-or-after-commute visits.
Because this is an add-on, you can expect the treatment to be tailored to your current service rather than a standalone appointment. Our staff will discuss any immediate sensory differences you might notice—such as a firmer feel—and advise on how the treatment fits into your overall maintenance plan.
Aftercare and daily maintenance
After a Protein Treatment, follow-up care shapes how long any changes last. In Laurel’s humid summers and changeable seasons, hair porosity and routine exposure to moisture will influence outcomes. Your loctician will recommend maintenance steps suited to your lifestyle—commuter schedules, workouts, and local outdoor time—to balance protein support with regular moisturizing practices.
Keep in mind that protein treatments are one tool among many; frequency, prior chemical treatments, and home care determine how locs respond. We do not guarantee specific cosmetic results, and excessive protein without balancing moisture can make hair feel stiff, so the stylist will help you plan appropriately.
